On the underside of the fascia board is soffit, the area where air passes through your attic and keeps moisture out.  During the hot summer months soffit helps by releasing heat from the attic.

Soffit also helps keeps insects and animals out of your attic. However, keeping it maintained is a necessity because bees love to nest in the soffit.
